A detailed photograph of The Pleiades asterism, showing numerous stars, and blue reflection nebulosity with a dark background.

Seven Sisters of Ice

This is M45, aka The Pleiades aka Seven Sisters. This is an open cluster in the constellation of Taurus, just 445 light years from Earth. It can be seen with the unaided eye in relatively dark skies but fun fact, it is best seen out of your peripheral vision…just look for the question mark to the East of Orion’s bow.

Limited-edition prints available in framed & unframed Lustre paper and Lustre paper mounted on Gatorfoam.

Acrylic will be made to order only.

Each comes signed with hanging hardware & a Certificate of Authentication.

Golden Handle Mineral Moon

The “Golden Handle” is able to be viewed for just a few hours each month. I enhanced the colors of some of the minerals present in the moon, which are iron & titanium.

I have this one available in a glass table-top panel with acrylic stand or on ChromaLuxe dye-sublimated aluminum, & then I have canvas & prints mounted on Gatorfoam as mixed-media with silicone added to the “rough” surfaces which will catch light & provide a 2-D effect!

Acrylic will be made to order only.

Each comes signed with hanging hardware & a Certificate of Authentication.

My Cosmic Wonders and Fire & Ice Mugs combine my prints into an everyday use, 15oz ceramic mug.

About the artist

I’m Marj Esquivel, an astrophotographer based in Central Texas, creating fine‑art images of the night sky through a blend of modern technology, patient craftsmanship, and a renewed devotion to creativity.

For years after obtaining a digital art degree, I stepped away from making art. Life became full — work, responsibilities, survival mode — and the creative part of me went quiet. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until the Covid pandemic hit & I saw hundreds of folks on social media buying telescopes & doing astrophotography. I tried to get into it but was still too busy.

Today, my process begins with a smart telescope system that allows me to set up quickly, choose a target, and let the sky unfold on its own schedule. Once the plan is running, I can step back — sometimes even go to bed — while the telescope collects hours of raw data under the Texas night.

But the real artistry happens afterward.

The most time‑intensive part of my work is the image development that takes place on my computer. I use multiple software tools to calibrate, stack, refine, and reveal the hidden color and structure inside the data. This is where the final image slowly emerges — where faint nebulosity becomes shape, where subtle gradients become depth, and where the piece transforms from captured photons into fine‑art astrophotography.

Kewlart Designs is where I share that work: a curated collection of deep‑sky portraits, lunar studies, custom Moon captures, and educational content for anyone who feels drawn to the night sky. Whether you’re here to explore the Gallery, request a print, or learn more about the Moon, I’m grateful you’re here.

Thank you for supporting art made under Texas skies — and for being part of my return to creativity.
